Sand Blower Airlines
The 12th TAS also had 2 C-47s that we called “Sand Blower Airlines”.  We used them for R&R runs and chow hall runs over to the navy ramp on the West side.  The Navy dudes would marshal us in to park and chock the plane.  Mechanics would pile out (not an officer aboard the plane). We would eat their food, get back in the Gooney Bird, start both engines, call the tower for taxi clearance. and go back to the east ramp.
