Major Lanny J. Headley

Gwinn, Michigan — Lanny Headley, 70, of 225 S. River Drive, Gwinn, entered eternal life Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2003, at Marquette General Hospital, where he had been a patient one day.

Born March 12, 1933 in Sarcoxie, Missouri, a son of Carl and Alice (Wild) Headley, Lanny was raised in St. Louis, MO, and was a 1951 graduate of the Afton High School. He attended college in Oklahoma and then the University of Missouri where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. Lanny then entered the US Air Force, serving at various assignments before being stationed at K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base in 1969. Lanny served with the 537th Tactical Airlift Squadron in Phu Cat, Vietnam from October 1967 to October 1968.  On June 7, 1972 he married Aryel June Depki in the Base Chapel. Lanny retired from the US Air Force in 1976 with the rank of Major, having honorably served his country for over twenty years. He was then employed by Selins Furniture and later worked as a realtor with the Elder Agency. Lanny was very devoted to his family and especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and the study of archeology and genealogy. He was a member of the Gwinn United Methodist Church and the Gwinn Lions Club.

A loving husband, father, proud grandfather, and brother, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Aryel; a daughter, Susan (Joseph) Schroderus of Negaunee; two sons, Barry L. Headley of Mesa, AZ and T. Stephen Headley of Boulder, CO; a step-daughter, Lynne (Chris) Britz of Green Bay, WI; two step-sons, Gary Zalewski of Kalamazoo and Alan (Kristine) Zalewski of Chesapeake, MD; his grandchildren, Rabia, Justin, and Peter Zalewski, Heather (Chris) Young, Jackie McCray, Alex Headley, Mathew and Tyler Schroderus; a sister, Linda Headley of Hendersonville, NC; sister-in-law, Charlene Headley of Boone, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Lanny was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Headley.
